In a market, I heard some women talking about facebook. They wanted to buy a phone with facebook on it as they said everybody should have a facebook account.
This made me ponder on the importance of facebook in our lives. What could prompt these women who are petit traders to seek phones with facebook because they want to have an account?
Surely they want to post photos and see photos of their friends and relatives. To them facebook is a place where people post their photos for others to see and vice versa not living out the fact that they can comment or like them.
For the past years facebook has invaded the hearts of Cameroonians as it gives them connectivity and helps them reach out to old friends, relatives, colleagues, etc.
Apart from being a social forum for interaction and interconnectivity, facebook can is also an important personality seller. It can develop your personality as it can degrade it. Using it appropriately is vital.
Below are some points to help you in your usage of facebook.
  • Be conscious that you are followed
Some people have huge number of friends and all these have access to their timelines. These follow them through their timelines so putting up an impressive personality if necessary. Often professionals follow timelines to know more about the people they want to deal with. Your posts or shares should matter most as it portrays your personality, visions, beliefs, profession, etc.
  • Distinct yourself
Facebook being a platform that harbours people of all works of life is not a junk pot. You must bedifferent in your participation. Put on a distinct voice that separates you from the crowd. You need to be different in your posts and the kind of discussions you take part in. Don’t post pictures that portray you as a prostitute and expect people to take you serious. Don’t post write-ups that are senseless and expect people to consider you serious. Your intelligence, nobility and personality should be seen in your posts and shares.
  • Make people follow your timeline
If you want to get followers or likes, you need to convince people that you are worth following. Are you going to be the person who posts beautiful landscape pictures in their feed each week? Are you going to be the voice of reason? Think about what you want to project before you post.
Some people go to facebook when they are bored, disturbed or lonely. Your post should give them something to talk about and refresh themselves.
Share other people’s interesting contents. It also shows what you are following and your communities. Sharing is vital in social media.
  • Do not focus on comments and likes
Not all posts demand likes and comments. Some people read your post without commenting on them but receiving the message.
Some people like without reading the posts though. The fact that your posts are not liked or comment on doesn’t make them less interesting.
This is my personal experience. I meet people who make references to my posts without me seeing them liking or commenting on them. They read my posts kept the messages but never liked them onfacebook.
Focus on the message, if it is a sense making message then know that you have touched lives through it no matter them not liking, commenting or sharing them.
